Today, we’re joined by Colin Singh Dillon, Chief Technical Officer for the Automotive Parts Manufacturing Association (APMA) and an internationally recognized leader in automotive innovation.
Background of Colin Singh Dillon
Colin provides leadership to Canada’s automotive sector through initiatives like Project Arrow, Canada’s first zero-emission concept vehicle, and he holds a global platform as a thought leader in areas such as connected autonomous security and the electrification of mobility. Beyond automotive, Colin is a founder of the Sikh Heritage Museum of Canada, co-founder of the Global Syndicate on Mobility Cyber Security, and an author and lecturer.
Journey into Automotive Design
In his early career, Colin’s innovative spirit led him to redesign parts like the exhaust system of a Honda Civic, sparking his interest in problem-solving within the automotive industry. His journey led him to various roles, including time spent as an art director in sci-fi film miniature modeling, before entering automotive design and innovation.
Colin’s Role at APMA and His Work in Cyber Security
At APMA, Colin leads initiatives like CyberKit 1.0 and CyberKit 2.0 to promote cyber security across the automotive supply chain. Starting in 2018, APMA’s Cyber Security Committee has grown from 8 to 43 members, dedicated to embedding cyber security measures in all vehicle components.
Comparing Canada’s Cyber Security Standards
Colin discusses Canada’s unique position as a vehicle assembler without a major OEM and the country’s efforts to match cyber security standards set by international bodies in Europe, the U.S., and Asia.
Global Syndicate of Mobility Cyber Security
Colin established the Global Syndicate on Mobility Cyber Security to bridge gaps across sectors like aerospace and rail. By promoting shared insights across industries, the syndicate aims to improve security practices globally without writing new regulations, focusing on innovation and workforce development.

Project Arrow, inspired by Canada’s Avro Arrow project, is a two-year initiative to build Canada’s first zero-emission concept vehicle, showcasing Canadian technology and talent. Colin anticipates a North American tour in 2023, celebrating Canada’s capabilities in automotive innovation.
