Once QAC began to research the topic, it became apparent that new knowledge, infrastructure, and technology were required to perform testing and quality assurance in the automotive and robotics industries. Although QAC is an expert on software testing and quality assurance, the automotive industry requires further development and in-depth learning. Additionally, a complex and expensive infrastructure is required to perform HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) types of testing for vehicles and robots in general. That’s why it’s so important to have partnerships to fulfil those gaps and joint effort to build something huge!

ACE: Automotive Centre of Excellence

The first centre of its kind in Canada, one of the world’s largest and most sophisticated climatic wind tunnels. ACE is a flexible, dynamic and secure one-stop-shop with a full range of testing facilities, educational and research labs, and offices for faculty, academic and industry visitors. ACE is where industry leaders, top researchers and some of the best and brightest students collaborate to create, test and validate paradigm-shifting innovations with a focus on bringing them to market as rapidly as possible.

Fraunhofer FOKUS

Fraunhofer FOKUS is an internationally renowned research institute in the area of information and communication technology applied to facilitate digital transformation. The organization has seven centres in the United States, under the name “Fraunhofer USA”, and three in Asia.[3] In October 2010, Fraunhofer announced that it would open its first research centre in South America.[4] Fraunhofer UK Research Ltd was established as a legally independent affiliate along with its Fraunhofer Centre for Applied Photonics, in Glasgow, Scotland, in March 2012[5].

Ontario Tech University (OTU)

Within 15 years of its founding, Ontario Tech University quickly earned a reputation for Computer Science, ranking among the top 10 programs in Canada and 4th in Ontario. Professors and students undertake research in a wide range of areas that include automotive design and engineering, business and information technology, computational science, alternative and sustainable energy, nuclear engineering, law enforcement, manufacturing, and community/public health, to name a few.

National Research Council (NRC)

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) is Canada’s largest federal research and development organization. Primary national research and technology organization of the Government of Canada, in science and technology research and development. The NRC is responsive, creative and uniquely placed to partner with QA Consultants since they invest in strategic R&D programming that will address critical issues for the future of Canada.

Ontario Centre of Excellence (OCE)

Ontario Centre of Excellence helps SMEs, academic researchers and entrepreneurs access emerging technologies to develop new applications while sharpening competitive edge and building export capacity. These include 5G and next-generation network testbeds for the validation of new technologies, applications, and services; advanced computing technology infrastructure and programming; and the Autonomous Vehicle Innovation network aimed at reinforcing Ontario’s position as a North American leader in transformative automotive technologies 

There’s no shortage of companies to partner with and develop new technologies. We have been in conversations with the NRC in London, Ontario, which provides leading-edge research, technical and engineering services, and develops innovative technology solutions. We plan to build a comprehensive Automation System Integration Testing framework, including process and capabilities to perform complete E2E testing in autonomous and connected vehicles, testing integration between hundreds of components within Infotainment, Heads-up display, Instrument cluster, Telematics and AUTOSAR / third-party applications.

Vehicle software is released before it is adequately tested. OEMs are not software developers and do not know how to design secure software systems. Cars are complex machines made up of many different digital systems and no single company has the ultimate responsibility to secure them. Once built, updating vehicle hardware and software is difficult since any cybersecurity weakness can persist for years. Each new car requires its own separate combination of hardware and software necessitating the support of hundreds of different versions.

In April 2019, QAC partnered with ACE and OTU to open the QA Consultants Software Test Bay in Oshawa, Ontario. Our team has developed new test infotainment systems using two test benches in the QAC Software Test Bay lab.
